Placed under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Mines, the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) was established as a public industrial and commercial entity (EPIC) by Executive Decree No. 98-69 of February 21, 1998. This followed the restructuring of the original INAPI (Algerian Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property).

Algeria is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which gives INAPI’s activities an international dimension governed by a precise legal framework combining national legislation and international obligations.

INAPI is working on modernizing its services, particularly through the use of information and communication technologies, and improving the dissemination of information for the benefit of economic actors.

In Algeria, industrial property is still not widely understood in the economic environment. At the same time, the national system of scientific and technical research needs to better connect with the rich information available in INAPI’s patent library, which is a valuable resource for exploring technical knowledge.

By strengthening its efforts across six strategic axis, INAPI will maintain its commitment to supporting economic and business development in Algeria, by making industrial property more accessible — a key element of any innovation-driven economy:

  • Axis 1 : Improve user services by reducing application processing times.
  • Axis 2 : Facilitate access to IP information via the official website: inapi.org.
  • Axis 3 : Promote the use of industrial property to support innovation and business growth.
  • Axis 4 : Contribute to improving the legal and institutional environment.
  • Axis 5 : Play a central role in the fight against counterfeiting.
  • Axis 6 : Continue INAPI’s internal transformation from a process-based culture to a service-oriented one.
