Before filing your patent application, it is recommended to conduct a prior art search to check for existing patents, subject to a fee of 2,400 DZD per search item.

Steps to file a patent

• Create an account on the INAPI website or log in to your existing account.
• Go to the "Patents" section on your dashboard, then click on "New Application."
• Fill in all required fields with the necessary information.
• Upload the required documents, including:
  • Descriptive memorandum in the national language, along with two French translations.
  • Abstract of the descriptive memorandum.
  • Drawings, if applicable.
• Print your payment receipt and the application form in 4 copies
• Make the payment:
  • At any CNEP agency to INAPI account: 100 00 13733 Key 7
  • domiciliation agency: ESSAFIR ALITTI CNEP – Branch code: 103
  • Or directly by cheque to INAPI.
• Sign the four printed copies of your application and prepare your full file.
• Submit your application file at INAPI in Algiers or the nearest regional office.

Required documents

• Four (4) signed copies of the completed application form.
• A clear description of the invention in the national language with two French translations, including main claims. See the application guide: Click Here
• A brief abstract of the invention (maximum 15 lines).
• Two sets of drawings, if needed for understanding the invention.
• Proof of payment of applicable fees.
• A priority document, if priority is claimed, with a certified copy of the original application (within 3 months).
• A priority rights transfer, if the priority applicant is different.
• An original signed power of attorney, if applying through a representative.

Patent Duration

A patent is valid for 20 years from the date of filing, subject to the payment of registration and annual maintenance fees.
